This south-eastern town, which was rebuilt in the eighteenth century, represents the heart and at the same time the starting point for visiting Baroque Sicily. Its cathedral, which was also resurrected and perfectly reconstructed after 10 years of complex works, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Its first name was Neas and it was supposedly founded by Sicilian populations at the time of the fall of Troy, on the Mendola hill. After falling into the hands of conquerors from Syracuse, the city assimilated Hellenic customs and worship and was elevated to being the site of a gymnasium.
Having fallen under Roman rule as a federated city, in the imperial era it was declared a Latin municipium: this was a specific arrangement that gave the city considerable privileges, including that of being able to govern itself with its own laws. It took its current name after it was conquered by the Arabs, who turned it into a heavily armed stronghold, and it became the capital of one of the three valleys into which they divided Sicily, namely Val di Noto. After two centuries of Muslim rule, in 1090 Noto negotiated a surrender to Roger.
The history of Noto has been marked by events caused by nature as well as by people: indeed, in 1693 it was destroyed by an earthquake that struck the whole of south-eastern Sicily.
Conceived as a large theatre without a backstage, and as a free and open city, Noto rose again, sumptuous and superb. The architectural history of the new city was dominated by the artistic flair of the three architects Rosario Gagliardi, Vincenzo Sinatra and Paolo Labisi, who were able to develop an amazing masterpiece of architectural unity. While living and working in the province, these three different figures gave the city an original imprint that goes beyond the rigid Baroque language, enriching it with Renaissance, Spanish and neoclassical elements and giving life to an imaginative and faintly dreamy style.
The city
The time has come to visit the city. We enter the city from the east, passing under the Triumphal Arch that will introduce us to Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the heart of Noto. In 1838 Ferdinand of Bourbon did the same when he inaugurated the monument. If we look up we can observe three symbolic sculptures on top of it: a crenelated tower representing power, a dog, symbolising loyalty, and a pelican in the centre to represent sacrifice.
This royal gateway was also built with the characteristic golden yellow limestone used for the construction of the city's churches and palaces. It is a very particular kind of limestone due to its adaptability and that is why it was chosen, to allow the elaborate cut of the monuments and because it radiates a strong light at the same time. As the sun goes down you will notice how the warm colour of the buildings stands out in the light of the sunset, creating an atmosphere that captures your heart.
Let's enjoy a walk: it's very pleasant to stroll up and down the main street Corso Vittorio Emanuele. On the right, above Piazza Immacolata, the Church of San Francesco all'Immacolata rises at the top of an imposing staircase. Inside the eighteenth-century church, we can note the single nave, design according to the Franciscan custom, and white walls decorated with Rococo-style stucco. Attached to the church is the Franciscan convent.
This is just one of the many churches that we will encounter along the way. Noto was rebuilt after a powerful earthquake and this allowed the architects of the time maximum freedom to design and create an urban layout that can be described as "spectacular". The three main streets, from east to west, were designed to be illuminated by the sun at all times. The urban planning intended for them to be destined to the three main social classes: the main street for the clergy, the upper one for the nobility and the lower one for the people. This is the reason behind the presence of so many churches along Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
The Church of Santa Chiara, on the left side of the Corso, features a very delicate Baroque style. The small and oval-shaped interior is decorated with stuccos and cherubs, and is given a harmonious feel by twelve columns. Let's go to the adjoining cloistered convent. It is an interesting world to discover and you can enjoy a beautiful view from the terrace.
The Cathedral, which stands at the top of a monumental staircase, was begun a few months after the earthquake of 1693 but was only completed in 1770. The façade is rather bare with little ornamentation and extravagance and incorporates Baroque motifs and classical elements. The Church has three naves, divided by high pillars. The silver Ark of San Corrado, the patron saint of the city, is kept in the chapel at the bottom of the right aisle. The reconstruction of the cathedral after the disastrous collapse of 1996 took place over more than 10 years by employing modern techniques that respected the eighteenth-century style and using the same materials from that time. They did a great job! A symbol of the city's rebirth, it is now included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Opposite the cathedral is Palazzo Ducezio, seat of the Town Hall. Designed by architect Sinatra, the building is raised above the square on which it stands. It was built between 1746 and 1830 on a single elevation and a second floor was only added in the 1950s, thus modifying the original neoclassical line. Inside, the reception hall is an explosion of magnificence, with an abundance of gold and stuccoes.
Continuing on the route, on the right we take Via Nicolaci, which is famous for its Infiorata, or flower festival. In May, teams of artists compose a mosaic of multicoloured petals, forming a carpet that covers the cobbles of the street. This floral event has a global perspective: every year the theme is dedicated to a different country.
The street ends with the beautiful concave façade of the Church of Montevergine, captured between two bell towers. On the left, the rounded balconies of Palazzo Nicolaci Villadorata stand out, representing the maximum expression of Noto's baroque style. The shelves that support them are decorated with animal shapes including spirals and arabesques.
The palace, built by the architect Nicolaci in 1731, has no fewer than 90 rooms with frescoed vaults and eighteenth-century paintings. For a long time it was the main residence of the princes of Villadorata.
Continuing the walk on the Corso, immediately on the left we find the Church of San Carlo and the Jesuit College, with its large four-column portal surmounted by monstrous gargoyles. Inside the church, we can go up the bell tower to enjoy the panoramic view of the city centre.
At the end of the street, we cross Piazza XVI Maggio with the Church of San Domenico and the Villetta di Ercole. The fountain and the benches will convince us to take a short break and admire the elegant Vittorio Emanuele III Theatre.

3rd Day: Modica-Scicli-Ragusa – 80 km
Modica is surprising, elegant, and mysterious. The best way to explore this town is on foot. You can enjoy walking its stairways, getting lost in the maze of alleyways, and overlooking its viewpoints. You'll need a lot of energy: luckily Modica is also the Sicilian homeland of chocolate. Modica Bassa is the town's meeting place and where our journey begins. The Church of San Pietro is a landmark. In the Chocolate Museum of Modica, you can discover the origin of chocolate. Watch how it is prepared and admire a large chocolate sculpture, some 9 metres high.
Strolling along Corso Umberto I, you will see the many shops and taverns, delicious restaurants, and pastry shops. Everything invites you to taste the local delicacies. We will be back here later.
Now it is time to find out why Modica has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. It is no mystery that the City of a Hundred Churches, as it is known, is considered the capital of Baroque in Sicily.
With its 19th-century and Art Nouveau influences, the late Baroque architectural style gives the city a unique chromatic and scenic harmony. The city centre is built on four rocky promontories. The buildings, churches and palaces are made of stone. They all have a warm golden colour.
The majestic Cathedral of St George is the symbol of Baroque worship. The church is 62 metres high and has 250 steps leading up to the entrance. It is so beautiful that, upon entering, you might be struck by Stendhal's syndrome. As you look down, you can notice a line running across the floor: it is one of Sicily's marvellous sundials.
If you follow the Tv series Il Commissario Montalbano, you will see that the cathedral and its roof garden appear in one episode of the fiction. Palazzo della Cultura and the Liceo Tommaso Campailla, are also some of the set locations of the series based on Camilleri's novels.
Climbing one of the stairs next to the Duomo, we reach Pizzo Belvedere. From this panoramic terrace overlooking the rooftops of Modica Alta, there is a magnificent view of Modica Bassa as well.
In Via Sant'Andrea, less than a kilometre from the centre, the most beautiful view of Modica at sunset awaits us. At night, from the "top" of the Monserrato hill, you can admire the incomparable beauty of Modica illuminated by the lights of the street lamps.
Let's get back on the road to discover one of the most surprising castles in the south. The Castello dei Conti stands on an impregnable rocky spur overlooking the town. Here time seems to stand still. Close to the castle walls is another symbol of Modica, the Clock Tower.
We continue to venture through the network of stairs and streets. We notice the medieval layout of the houses, built back-to-back. We come across the birthplace of the writer Salvatore Quasimodo. Reading some of his verses, we may wish to explore the places of his poetry. We continue to wander through the historic part of the town until we reach the centre. We find ourselves in the Vignazza-Fontana district, home to the ancient Necropolis of Quartiriccio. It is the place of the city's first human settlement. The site has thirty castelluccio cave tombs dating back to the Early Bronze Age.
In the territory of Modica, there is another area with remains of the past, hidden in the unspoilt nature: it is Cava d'Ispica. It is one of the canyons in the Sicilian region where it is possible to make trekking and archaeological excursions. If you want to learn more, discover the dedicated route. All these stairs will certainly have whetted your appetite. The lolli (fresh, hand-rolled and coarsely cut pasta) with baked broad beans (Slow Food Praesidium) are a must in the local cuisine. A sumptuous and opulent town in the Val di Noto, Scicli (in the province of Ragusa) is a must-see item on a trip to discover Baroque Sicily.
Set at the junction of three valleys just a few kilometres from the sea, the medieval layout of its neighbourhoods is dense with pink houses kissed by the warm sun.
The nativity scene city, with its historic centre, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with seven other municipalities in the Val di Noto: its historic centre is an expression of the creative genius of the late Baroque age, the result of 18th-century reconstruction following the disastrous earthquake of 1693 that razed the entire city to the ground. In his book "Le città del mondo" – Cities of the world, the famous writer Elio Vittorini described Scicli as perhaps the most beautiful city in the world.
Ragusa is a city with two
souls: the modern city and the ancient city of Ibla,
its Baroque salon.
This duality stems from the famous earthquake of
1693, which razed the city to the ground. The reconstruction, which took place
in the 18th century, divided it into two large districts: on one side, Ragusa
Superiore, located on the plateau, and on the other, Ragusa Ibla, built on the
ruins of the ancient city.

4th Day: Taormina-Catania -170 km
Taormina was an unmissable stop of the Grand Tour, the journey of the nineteenth-century European aristocracy. Even today, the city is a popular destination for international tourism, with many tourists arriving each year from all over the world to discover its beauty.

5th Day: Agrigento Valley of the Temples -260 km
Agrigento
The rediscovery of Akragas began towards the end of the 18th century, when the first European travellers arrived and ventured into Sicily, discovering an unexpected and immense artistic and archaeological heritage.
In an enchanted valley with flowering almond trees, there stands the most impressive monumental ensemble of Hellenic architecture in Sicily. In this mixture of man-made cultural environment and natural landscape lies all the charm of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Valle dei Templi – the Valley of the Temples – is undoubtedly the most important vestige of ancient classical culture in Sicily. It comprises the temples of the gods, as well as the necropolis area and the extra-moenia sanctuaries.

6th Day: Pachino/Portopalo-Catania Airport – 110 km
Pachino, a town in southeastern Sicily, is known worldwide for its Pachino IGP tomatoes, a symbol of agricultural excellence and regional identity. Located between the Ionian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, it offers picturesque coastal landscapes, rural traditions, and maritime culture. The area includes beaches, nature reserves, and villages such as Marzamemi, making Pachino an ideal destination for food and wine, nature, and beach tourism all year round.

Together, we experienced the rich Greek and Italian heritage of the region. Sicily is a magnificent crossroads of cultures, where ancient Greek civilization met the island's indigenous peoples and, later, the Roman and Italian worlds.

Με ιδιαίτερη χαρά και υπερηφάνεια ολοκληρώσαμε την τελική συνάντηση της διεθνούς ομάδας εκμάθησης αγγλικών, η οποία αποτέλεσε την καταληκτική συνεδρία ενός εξάμηνου εκπαιδευτικού προγράμματος με 22 μαθήματα και συμμετοχές από τέσσερις διαφορετικές χώρες.
Η πρωτοβουλία αυτή υπήρξε μια πραγματικά πρωτοποριακή δράση για τον οργανισμό μας, καθώς απέδειξε ότι η εκπαίδευση, η συνεργασία και η επικοινωνία μπορούν να ενώσουν ανθρώπους διαφορετικών πολιτισμών και γλωσσών μέσα σε ένα κοινό περιβάλλον μάθησης και αλληλοσεβασμού.
Κατά τη διάρκεια αυτών των μηνών δημιουργήθηκε μια ζωντανή διεθνής κοινότητα, όπου οι συμμετέχοντες δεν ανέπτυξαν μόνο τις γλωσσικές τους δεξιότητες, αλλά και ουσιαστικές σχέσεις συνεργασίας, φιλίας και πολιτισμικής ανταλλαγής. Η συνέπεια, η αφοσίωση και ο ενθουσιασμός όλων απέδειξαν τη μεγάλη αξία της δια βίου μάθησης και της διεθνούς συμμετοχής.
Θα ήθελα να εκφράσω τις θερμές μου ευχαριστίες στους εκπαιδευτές, στους συντονιστές και σε όλους τους συμμετέχοντες που στήριξαν αυτή την καινοτόμο προσπάθεια με τόσο θετική ενέργεια και ενεργή παρουσία. Πολύ σημαντικό ότι όλες αυτές οι δράσεις έγιναν εθελοντικά χωρίς κάποιο κόστος για τους συμμετέχοντες.
Η επιτυχία του προγράμματος μάς δίνει τη δύναμη και την έμπνευση να συνεχίσουμε με ακόμη περισσότερες διεθνείς δράσεις, εκπαιδευτικές συνεργασίες και προγράμματα κινητικότητας στο μέλλον.
Η εμπειρία αυτή δεν ήταν μόνο ένα πρόγραμμα εκμάθησης αγγλικών· ήταν ένα παράδειγμα του πώς η εκπαίδευση μπορεί να δημιουργήσει γέφυρες επικοινωνίας ανάμεσα στους ανθρώπους και να ενισχύσει την ευρωπαϊκή και διεθνή συνεργασία.

It is with great joy and pride that we completed the final meeting of the international English learning group, which marked the concluding session of a six-month educational programme consisting of 22 lessons with participants from four different countries.
This initiative was a truly pioneering action for our organization, as it demonstrated that education, cooperation, and communication can bring together people from different cultures and languages within a common environment of learning and mutual respect.
During these months, a vibrant international community was created, where participants developed not only their language skills, but also meaningful relationships of cooperation, friendship, and cultural exchange. The consistency, dedication, and enthusiasm shown by everyone highlighted the great value of lifelong learning and international participation.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the teachers, coordinators, and all participants who supported this innovative effort with such positive energy and active involvement.
It is especially important to emphasize that all these activities were carried out voluntarily and without any cost to the participants.
The success of this programme gives us the strength and inspiration to continue with even more international initiatives, educational collaborations, and mobility programmes in the future.
This experience was not only an English language learning programme; it was an example of how education can build bridges of communication between people and strengthen European and international cooperation.

Έγινε η τελική συνάντηση για την ομάδα εκμάθησης αγγλικών . Η συνάντηση ήταν η καταληκτική συνεδρία ενός προγράμματος εκμάθησης αγγλικών που διήρκεσε 6 μήνες με 22 μαθήματα με συμμετέχοντες από τέσσερις χώρες. Ήταν μια χαλαρή πολύγλωσση κοινωνική συνάντηση όπου οι συμμετέχοντες χαιρετιόντουσαν σε πολλές γλώσσες, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των ελληνικών, των τουρκικών, γεωργιανών και των ιταλικών.
Οι καθηγητές εξέφρασαν την ευγνωμοσύνη τους σε όλους τους συμμετέχοντες για την αφοσίωση και την πειθαρχία τους, σημειώνοντας ότι η παρακολούθηση ήταν συνεπής χωρίς να υπάρχουν επίσημες απαιτήσεις του έργου. The final meeting for the English learning group took place. The meeting was the final session of a 6-month English learning program with 22 lessons, featuring participants from four countries. It was a relaxed, multilingual social gathering during which participants greeted one another in several languages, including Greek, Turkish, Georgian and Italian.
The teachers expressed their gratitude to all participants for their dedication and discipline, noting that attendance had remained consistent despite the absence of any formal project requirements. Participants shared positive feedback regarding the friendly atmosphere and the opportunities for speaking practice, while many expressed interest in continuing similar programmes in the coming year. The session concluded with plans to maintain communication through the WhatsApp group during the summer and to explore new ideas for the future, including Erasmus mobility programmes.
Participants also shared their reflections on the experience, with Elmo De Angelis and others highlighting the valuable opportunities for social interaction and language practice. The President of OIKO.POLI.S, Sophia Dimitriou Psarrou, remarked that while speaking English is highly valuable, regular language practice is essential for maintaining vocabulary and sentence-construction skills.
All participants provided positive feedback regarding the improved social communication among colleagues over the past months and emphasized the importance of practising the English language through these interactions.
They completed a survey, evaluated the cycle of 22 meetings, and submitted their proposals for the continuation of this innovative initiative.
The trainers received certificates of appreciation from OIKO.POLI.S in recognition of their contribution, and participants expressed interest in continuing similar activities next year. The discussion concluded with participants expressing their gratitude for the experience and wishing one another all the best for the summer holidays.

This has been such a productive English communicative workshop that has exceeded our expectations.
Students coming from four countries participated and outdid themselves in discipline, interest and perseverance, achieving the best results.
It also was an opportunity for us teachers to explore different methods and ideas to facilitate learning.
We have reached the end of the course promising to meet again after the summer holidays in autumn.
Meanwhile we are going to keep in touch and inform everyone of our summer activities.

Χαιρετισμός από τον εκπαιδευτή των Αγγλικών Hasan Yüce με το κλείσιμο της φετινής περιόδου 2025-26
Αυτό το πρόγραμμα συγκέντρωσε μια ζωντανή ομάδα μαθητών από την Ελλάδα, την Τουρκία, την Ιταλία και τη Γεωργία. Μαζί, αποδείξαμε ότι η γλώσσα δεν είναι μόνο λέξεις - πρόκειται για το χτίσιμο γεφυρών, την ανταλλαγή ιστοριών και την καλλιέργεια φιλιών που ξεπερνούν τα σύνορα.

Θα θέλαμε να εκφράσουμε την βαθύτατη ευγνωμοσύνη μας σε κάθε συμμετέχοντα. Η αφοσίωση, ο ενθουσιασμός και η ζεστή σας διάθεση έκαναν κάθε συνεδρία ένα από τα highlights της εβδομάδας μας.

Ενώ το 22 εβδομάδων πρόγραμμα έχει ολοκληρωθεί, το πνεύμα των "Παγκόσμιων Φίλων" παραμένει. Ελπίζουμε να συνεχίσετε να εξασκείτε τα αγγλικά σας και να διατηρείτε επαφή με τις υπέροχες γνωριμίες που έχετε δημιουργήσει.

Στον ΟΙΚΟ.ΠΟΛΙ.Σ ξεκινάμε μια καινούρια δράση με σκοπό να σας φέρουμε σε επαφή με την Αγγλική γλώσσα.
Σε συνεργασία με τον καθηγητή Αγγλικών και μέλος του ΟΙΚΟΠΟΛΙΣ Hasan από την Τουρκία, διοργανώνουμε ένα εθελοντικό πρόγραμμα εκμάθησης αγγλικών για αρχάριους.
Τα μαθήματα θα διεξαχθούν μέσω της πλατφόρμας Zoom και οι εισηγητές θα είναι η καθηγήτρια Αγγλικών Νίκη Κακιοπούλου και ο Hasan. Οι θέσεις είναι περιορισμένες και θα τηρηθεί σειρά προτεραιότητας.
Στόχος μας είναι να εμπλουτίσουμε περαιτέρω το Δίκτυο Φίλων που έχουμε και, κατά τη διάρκεια του καλοκαιριού, να συναντηθούμε όλοι μαζί σε ένα ελληνικό νησί.
Τα μαθήματα θα γίνονται διαδικτυακά γιατί θα συμμετέχουν άτομα από διαφορετικές χώρες, μέσω της πλατφόρμας του Zoom.
Δημιουργούμε μια φιλική online κοινότητα όπου:
• Μαθαίνουμε Αγγλικά με ευχάριστο τρόπο
• Γνωρίζουμε νέους ανθρώπους
• Ανταλλάσσουμε ιδέες και εμπειρίες από όλο τον κόσμο Επικοινωνήστε μαζί μας με απάντηση στο εμαιλ oikopolis2007@gmail.com μέχρι τις 19/10/2025.

ΔΕΛΤΙΟ ΤΥΠΟΥ «Διεθνής φιλία χωρίς σύνορα» , 5-12 Σεπτεμβρίου 2024
Με μεγάλη επιτυχία ολοκληρώθηκε το πρόγραμμα « Διεθνής φιλία χωρίς σύνορα» από τον ΟΙΚΟ.ΠΟΛΙ.Σ. Νέες φιλίες δημιουργήθηκαν, ισχυρές συνεργασίες με φίλους από Λιθουανία, Ιταλία, Ισπανία, Γεωργία, Τουρκία.
Πρώτος σταθμός η Ελλάδα. Κοινές διακοπές φίλων από την Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό.
Τα βασικό πιστεύω μας είναι ότι η φιλία μεταξύ ατόμων από άλλες χώρες μπορεί να γεφυρώσει τις διαφορές . Ένας ενωμένος κόσμος μπορεί να οικοδομηθεί έχοντας θεμέλια πραγματικές φιλίες που έχουν τη δύναμη να ξεπερνούν σύνορα και διαχωρισμούς.
Από τον Ιούνιο του 2024 , προσκαλέσαμε φίλους μας από το εξωτερικό να έρθουν στην Ελλάδα, να οργανώσουμε κοινές δράσεις , να γνωριστούμε καλύτερα και να γίνει η αρχή μιας δυνατής φιλίας.
Μια νέα πρωτοβουλία της OIKO.ΠΟΛΙ.Σ, μετά την αλλαγή του καταστατικού, είναι η διοργάνωση ετήσιων συναντήσεων σε μια από τις εμπλεκόμενες χώρες, προκειμένου να γνωρίσουμε την ιστορία διαφορετικών χωρών, πολιτισμούς, έθιμα/συνήθειες καθώς και να έχουμε την ευκαιρία να ανταλλάξουμε απόψεις για περιβαλλοντικά και πολιτιστικά θέματα.
Εννέα φίλοι από Ιταλία, Λιθουανία, Ισπανία, Τουρκία και Γεωργία αποδέχτηκαν την πρόσκλησή μας και κάναμε μαζί διακοπές για μια εβδομάδα. Ο Elmo De Angelis ,η Rosella Giovagnoli και ο Εnzo Pinzini από την Ιταλία, η Ia Mosashvili από την Γεωργία, ο Hasan Yüce από την Τουρκία, παλιοί συνεργάτες μας και οι νέοι φίλοι και συνεργάτες, ο Rimas Velykis και η Jolanda Velykiene από τη Λιθουανία και ο Carlos Bodí και η Ivana Domenech απ'΄την Ισπανία.
Επισκεφθήκαμε το Κατάκολο, την Αρχαία Ολυμπία, τη Δημητσάνα, τα Λαγκάδια, τη Σύρο, το Χαϊδάρι και την Αθήνα (Μουσεία, Αρχαιολογικούς χώρους).
Στο πρόγραμμα
συμμετείχαν και 20 άτομα του ΟΙΚΟ.ΠΟΛΙ.Σ και έτσι ξεκίνησε να δημιουργείται το
Διεθνές Δίκτυο φίλων. Αυτό είναι ένα όνειρο του ΟΙΚΟ.ΠΟΛΙ.Σ που άρχισε σιγά σιγά να υλοποιείται.
Μερικοί από τους Έλληνες συμμετέχοντες είναι:
Απόστολος Ψαρρός , Σοφία Δημητρίου, Kων/νος Κορδολεμης , Μαίρη Κορδολέμη, Ανδρέας Χατζημηνάς, Κρίνα Καραμανή, Ελένη Μπάστα , Γεωργία Σούλη, Μιχάλης Κομοδίκης , Καίτη Τσαπαλάκη, Νίκος Σταμπουλίδης, Αναστασία Kουτσούκου, Παρασκευή Μαρκεσίνη , Μαργαρίτα Δεμερούτη, Βάσω Βασιλοπούλου.
Συζητήσαμε και ανταλλάξαμε ιδέες για άλλους πολιτισμούς, για περιβαλλοντικά προβλήματα , για την ειρήνη. Ήταν μια καλή αρχή για άτομα που εκτιμούν τις ορατές πτυχές όπως το φαγητό, τη μουσική, τους χορούς αλλά συγχρόνως είναι ανοιχτοί στο να μάθουν για διαφορετικές βασικές αξίες, αντιλήψεις και συμπεριφορές που οι άνθρωποι μπορεί να μην δείχνουν αμέσως και έτσι να οικοδομήσουν ισχυρές διαπολιτισμικές συνδέσεις.Έτσι έγινε με την ομάδα μας. Ξεκινήσαμε με μια συνάντηση στο σπίτι της Ελένης Μπάστα με 35 άτομα με παραδοσιακά φαγητά που έφεραν οι συμμετέχοντες και χορούς από την Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό.

6/9 Παρασκευή
Επισκεφθήκαμε την
παραλία της Κουρούτας, κάναμε μπάνιο και μετά κάναμε μια περιήγηση στην πόλη
Κατάκολο. Κατά τη διάρκεια του δείπνου είχαμε την ευκαιρία να ανταλλάξουμε
ιδέες για τα παραδοσιακά φαγητά σε κάθε χώρα και για τον τρόπο που
ενεργοποιούνται οι άνθρωποι 60+.
7/9 Σάββατο
Επίσκεψη στην
Αρχαία Ολυμπία (Αρχαιολογικός χώρος και Μουσείο)
Κατά τη διάρκεια του ταξιδιού μας γνωρίσαμε την Αρχαία Ολυμπία, η οποία δεν είναι απλώς μια πόλη με μόνιμους κατοίκους, αλλά ένα ιερό από κτίρια και ναούς αφιερωμένους στους Θεούς που προστάτευαν τους Αγώνες.
Μια καταπληκτική ξεναγός μας οδήγησε στον σπουδαίο αρχαιολογικό χώρο . Περπατώντας στον χώρο είδαμε τα ερείπια του ναού του Δία, το γυμναστήριο, τον ιππόδρομο και το Ολυμπιακό στάδιο όπου διεξήχθησαν οι πρώτοι Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες, σχεδιασμένο να φιλοξενεί έως και 40.000 θεατές.
Οργανώσαμε έναν αγώνα μέσα στο στάδιο και όλοι νοιώσαμε για λίγο πως βρισκόμαστε στην Αρχαία Ελλάδα. Ήταν μια υπέροχη εμπειρία και είμασταν όλοι νικητές! Αυτό μας έδωσε την ευκαιρία να μιλήσουμε για την Ολυμπιακή Εκεχειρία που θα μπορούσε να γίνει ένα μοναδικό εργαλείο για την προώθηση της παγκόσμιας ειρήνης.
Στη συνέχεια,
επισκεφθήκαμε το Μουσείο που είναι ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα και σημαντικότερα
μουσεία της Ελλάδας και φιλοξενεί πληθώρα αρχαίων αγαλμάτων, οικιακών
αντικειμένων, όπλων και ευρημάτων από αρχαίους ναούς.
Τελειώνοντας την
ξενάγηση, απολαύσαμε μια μικρή στάση στην πόλη της Ολυμπίας.
Το βράδυ προσφέραμε στους συμμετέχοντες ένα δείπνο σε παραδοσιακή ταβέρνα. Απολαύσαμε το φαγητό μας με ωραία τραγούδια, χορεύοντας όλοι μαζί Ελληνικούς και ξένους χορούς.
8/9 Κυριακή:
Επισκεφθήκαμε μερικά ιδιαίτερα μέρη: Λαγκάδια , Δημητσάνα, Βυτίνα. Μια διαδρομή ανάμεσα σε πεύκα, έλατα και κάστανα την οποία απόλαυσαν όλοι. Ο Θεόδωρος Ορεινός ήταν ο οδηγός μας.
Το βράδυ, απολαύσαμε ένα ξεχωριστό παραδοσιακό ιταλικό δείπνο στο σπίτι του Απόστολου Ψαρρού, προσφορά του Elmo De Angelis και της Rosela. Μαγείρεψαν για εμάς και όλοι οι διεθνείς φίλοι προσέφεραν ποτά και μερικά παραδοσιακά προϊόντα από τις χώρες τους.
9/9 έως 10/9 : Διήμερη εκδρομή στο πανέμορφο νησί της Σύρου
Επισκεφτήκαμε την
Άνω Σύρο και περάσαμε δύο μέρες μαζί , γνωριστήκαμε καλύτερα και κάναμε σχέδια
για μελλοντικές δράσεις.
Ήδη ξεκινάμε την
οργάνωση προγραμμάτων Erasmus αλλά και άλλες
διαδικτυακές συνεργασίες.
Ο σκοπός μας είναι να συναντηθούμε σε μια άλλη χώρα του χρόνου αλλά παράλληλα να εμπλουτισθεί το δίκτυο και με άλλα μέλη από την Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό.
Μερικά σχόλια από τους φίλους μας:
-Με έκαναν να νιώσω πολύ έντονα τη μεσογειακή φιλοξενία. Θα ήθελα να ευχαριστήσω όλους τους Έλληνες φίλους μου ξεχωριστά. Ήταν ξεχωριστή χαρά να συναντώ φίλους από διαφορετικές χώρες και πολιτισμούς και να μοιράζομαι τα ίδια συναισθήματα και τον ίδιο ενθουσιασμό μαζί τους. Θα ήθελα να ευχαριστήσω ξανά τη Σοφία και την ομάδα της που συγκέντρωσαν μια τόσο αρμονική ομάδα.
Σας ευχαριστούμε πολύ όλους για το υπέροχο ταξίδι, τις αξέχαστες εντυπώσεις, τις γνώσεις, τις νέες εμπειρίες, τους νέους, εκπληκτικά ζεστούς ανθρώπους που γνωρίσαμε σε αυτό το ταξίδι! Εξαιρετικά και προσεκτικά προετοιμασμένα ταξιδιωτικά δρομολόγια....για να γνωρίσουμε καλύτερα τη χώρα και τον πολιτισμό της, ειδικά τη Σοφία και την ελληνική ομάδα της, για τραγούδια, χορούς... απίστευτα νόστιμο φαγητό και ένα ζεστό σπίτι! Νιώσαμε άνετα, τα πάντα παρέχονται! Καθώς και την ευκαιρία να γνωρίσεις νέους ανθρώπους.
Περάσαμε
υπέροχες διακοπές στην Ελλάδα. Ευχαριστούμε πολύ, πολύ στην ελληνική ομάδα για
την τόσο ειλικρινή φιλία και φιλοξενία που λάβαμε από εσάς αυτή την εβδομάδα. Ο
καθένας μας έκανε πραγματικά αυτές τις διακοπές για έναν ολόκληρο χρόνο και θα
θυμόμαστε γλυκά τις μέρες που περάσαμε μαζί σας για το υπόλοιπο της ζωής μας…

Press Release: "International friendship without borders" , 5-12 September 2024
With great success, the program "International Friendship Without Borders" was organized by OIKO.POLIS was completed. New friendships were formed, and strong collaborations were established with friends from Lithuania, Italy, Spain, Georgia, and Turkey.
The first stop was Greece, where joint vacations were enjoyed by friends from Greece and abroad. Our core belief is that friendships between individuals from different countries can bridge differences. A united world can be built on the foundation of genuine friendships, which have the power to overcome borders and divisions.
Starting in June 2024, we invited our friends from abroad to come to Greece, organize joint activities, get to know each other better, and begin the journey of forming a strong bond. A new initiative from OIKO.POLIS, following a change in its statutes, is the organization of annual meetings in one of the participating countries. The aim is to learn about the history, cultures, customs, and traditions of different countries while also having the opportunity to exchange views on environmental and cultural issues.
Nine friends from Italy, Lithuania, Spain, Turkey, and Georgia accepted our invitation and we spent a week vacationing together. Elmo De Angelis, Rosella Giovagnoli, and Enzo Pinzini from Italy, Ia Mosashvili from Georgia, Hasan Yüce from Turkey, our old collaborators, and our new friends and collaborators, Rimas Velykis and Jolanda Velykiene from Lithuania, and Carlos Bodí and Ivana Domenech from Spain.
We visited Katakolo, Ancient Olympia, Dimitsana, Lagkadia, Syros, Haidari,
and Athens (Museums and archaeological sites).
Twenty members of OIKO.POLIS also participated in the program, thus starting
the creation of the International Friends Network.
This is a dream of OIKO.POLIS that is slowly coming to life.
Some of the Greek participants include Apostolos Psarros, Sofia Dimitriou, Konstantinos Kordolemis, Mary Kordolemi, Andreas Chatziminas, Krina Karamani, Eleni Basta, Georgia Souli, Michalis Komodikis, Kaiti Tsapalaki, Nikos Stamboulidis, Anastasia Koutsoukou, Paraskevi Markesini, Margarita Demerouti, and Vasso Vasilopoulou.
We discussed and exchanged ideas about different cultures, environmental issues, and peace. It was a good start for people who appreciate visible aspects such as food, music, and dances but are also open to learning about the deeper values, perceptions, and behaviors that people may not immediately show, thus building strong intercultural connections.
This is what happened with our group. We began with a meeting at Eleni Basta's home, where 35 people gathered with traditional dishes brought by the participants and dances from Greece and abroad.

5/9 Thursday: Dinner and traditional celebration at Eleni Basta's house.
6/9 Friday: We visited Kourouta Beach, swam, and then toured the town of Katakolo. During dinner, we had the chance to exchange ideas about traditional foods in each country and how people over 60 remain active.
7/9 Saturday: Visit to Ancient Olympia (Archaeological Site and Museum)
During our trip, we explored Ancient Olympia, which is not just a city with permanent residents but a sanctuary of buildings and temples dedicated to the Gods who protected the Games.
An amazing tour guide led us through the remarkable archaeological site. As we walked through the area, we saw the ruins of the Temple of Zeus, the gymnasium, the hippodrome, and the Olympic Stadium, where the first Olympic Games were held, designed to accommodate up to 40,000 spectators.
We organized a race inside the stadium, and for a moment, we all felt like we were in Ancient Greece. It was a wonderful experience, and we were all winners! This allowed us to discuss the Olympic Truce, which could become a unique tool for promoting global peace.
We then visited the museum, one of the largest and most important in Greece, which houses numerous ancient statues, household items, weapons, and findings from ancient temples.
After the tour, we enjoyed a short stop in the town of Olympia.
In the evening, we treated the participants to dinner at a traditional tavern. We enjoyed our meal accompanied by beautiful songs, dancing together to both Greek and foreign dances.
8/9, Sunday
We visited some special places: Lagkadia, Dimitsana, and Vytina. A journey through pine, fir, and chestnut trees that everyone enjoyed.

We had a special traditional Italian dinner at Apostolos Psarros' home in the evening, prepared by Elmo De Angelis and Rosella. They cooked for us, and all our international friends brought drinks and traditional products from their countries.
9/9 and 10/9: Two-day trip to the beautiful island of Syros
We visited Ano Syros and spent two days together, getting to know each other better and planning for future activities.
We are already starting to organize Erasmus programs and other online
collaboration.
Our goal is to meet in another country next year, while also enriching the
network with new members from Greece and abroad.

International meeting in Greece
Μια νέα πρωτοβουλία της OIKO.POLI.S, μετά την αλλαγή του καταστατικού, είναι η διοργάνωση ετήσιων συναντήσεων σε μια από τις εμπλεκόμενες χώρες, προκειμένου να γνωρίσουμε την ιστορία διαφορετικών χωρών. πολιτισμούς, έθιμα/συνήθειες καθώς και να έχουμε την ευκαιρία να ανταλλάξουμε απόψεις για περιβαλλοντικά και πολιτιστικά θέματα.Δέκα φίλοι από Ιταλία, Λιθουανία, Ισπανία, Τουρκία και Γεωργία αποδέχτηκαν την πρόσκλησή μας και θα είναι μαζί μας για μια εβδομάδα. Αρχαία Ολυμπία, Δημητσάνα, Σύρος, Χαϊδάρι.......Η φιλία χωρίς σύνορα σημαίνει μια σχέση που υπερβαίνει τα πολιτιστικά, γεωγραφικά και κοινωνικά όρια. Τονίζει τις παγκόσμιες αξίες της εμπιστοσύνης, της κατανόησης και του αμοιβαίου σεβασμού που αποτελούν τη βάση των γνήσιων ανθρώπινων συνδέσεων. Αυτές οι φιλίες γιορτάζουν τη διαφορετικότητα, προωθούν την παγκόσμια ενότητα και αναδεικνύουν την κοινή ανθρωπιά που μας δένει όλους, ανεξάρτητα από το υπόβαθρό μας. Τέτοιοι δεσμοί μπορούν να ενισχύσουν την ενσυναίσθηση, να μειώσουν τις προκαταλήψεις και να συμβάλουν σε έναν πιο αρμονικό και διασυνδεδεμένο κόσμο.
Στον ΟΙΚΟ.ΠΟΛΙ.Σ αποφασίσαμε να φτιάξουμε ένα Δίκτυο φίλων από όλο τον κόσμο. Έτσι προσκαλέσαμε στο σύλλογό μας να συμμετέχουν μέλη από όλο τον κόσμο. Θέλουμε να μάθουμε για άλλους πολιτισμούς και να δημιουργήσουμε ουσιαστικές συνδέσεις μεταξύ των ανθρώπων.
Ο πολιτισμός είναι σαν ένα παγόβουνο. Όταν κοιτάτε ένα πραγματικό παγόβουνο, βλέπετε μόνο ένα μικρό μέρος ολόκληρου του αντικειμένου, επειδή το μεγαλύτερο μέρος του είναι κρυμμένο κάτω από το νερό. Οι κουλτούρες είναι επίσης έτσι επειδή υπάρχουν μέρη κάθε πολιτισμού που είναι ορατά, αλλά οι περισσότερες πτυχές είναι κρυμμένες έως ότου οι άνθρωποι της κουλτούρας αισθάνονται άνετα μαζί σας.
Είναι μια καλή αρχή για άτομα που εκτιμούν τις ορατές πτυχές όπως το φαγητό, τη μουσική, τους χορούς . Αλλά για να οικοδομήσουν ισχυρές διαπολιτισμικές συνδέσεις, πρέπει να είναι ανοιχτοί στο να μάθουν για διαφορετικές βασικές αξίες, αντιλήψεις και συμπεριφορές που οι άνθρωποι μπορεί να μην δείχνουν αμέσως.
Στις 5-12 Σεπτέμβρη 2024 , προσκαλέσαμε φίλους μας από το εξωτερικό να έρθουν στην Ελλάδα, να οργανώσουμε κοινές δράσεις , να γνωριστούμε καλύτερα και να γίνει η αρχή μιας δυνατής φιλίας.

What is our Strategy?
Increased global competition, the race for talent, and disruptive
innovation create opportunities for associations and professional societies to
become more essential to members.
Simply put: It's all about making our members
happy, providing them with what they need, and helping to build their capacity
and increase their communication. Membership is the lifeblood of any
association and never before have organizations been faced with so many
membership challenges.
Oikopolis is a non-governmental organization with a Greek membership of
about 63 and 4 honor European members but it is aiming to increase them and to
create a Network of World people.
Through its members, OIKOPOLIS wants to bring together people who
develop voluntary, consensus-based international standards that support
innovative, economic, social, and environmental development and provide
solutions to global challenges. In OIKOPOLIS also we believe that a strong
foundation in people and organization development, effective use of technology,
and a focus on communication will help it achieve its goals.
One of our major challenges is the diversity of members. "Our members
can be people from big or small organizations, governmental or
non-governmental, private or public, and the challenges and opportunities in
every national context are different. "In this respect, we cannot come up with
a 'one-size-fits-all' approach. Having said that, obviously many challenges
will be shared and we will do our utmost to find the commonalities between our
members and stimulate the sharing of best practice stories and experiences to take advantage of the power of our network. Being part of an
international organization will allow for a valuable information exchange and
promotes peer-to-peer exchange — this is something we are very keen to foster."
We will try to explore the new ideas and proposes from our members. These kinds of measures will help us to understand, and therefore, improve member engagement."

We have decided to change the
statute of OIKO.POLI.S by opening up to the international and national
community.
A lot of people are looking for
activities that will keep them active. There are plenty of activities, which
keep active the mind as well as the body
and fill the free time available, in which they could participate.
Joining an international organisation is a good way to broaden our horizons in cooperation with people from other countries and therefore of different cultures.
Our main idea is to create a group that meets the social and cultural needs of people of all ages from different parts of the world. A group that will provide ICT access and training to persons 20+ and/or people with disabilities.
Our objectives are:
1. Common holidays of the members. Annual holiday meetings in one of the
involved countries on a specific topic.
2. Exchange of experiences: organising working groups on education and integration issues such as active ageing, culture and e-services.
3. Organisation of online training. Each member will be able to transfer their experiences to the others by organising online or face-to-face seminars/activities.
4. Communication: Creating a website, distributing newsletters, publishing articles and presentations on relevant issues.
5. Organising an Erasmus project with the final aim of an International meeting after a year of communication through online activities.
